Response to GVS Questionnaire

Why do you want to run for the study commission?

I am very interested in learning more about the different forms of city government to ensure that we are utilizing the best type for our geographical area and population. I think it is imperative that all residents feel represented by their government. If the current form is the ideal, we should keep it. If it is no longer working for Bozeman, we should make changes.

What skills and experience do you have that you think will help in your role as a study commissioner?

I am honest, extensive experience to work well with teams, and have a good foundational knowledge of government structure to grow from. I have a willingness to always consider alternative views and ideas to make informed decisions. While I have no political experience, I do not consider this a setback as I consider it a valuable public service to be able to serve the broader community.

Have you ever served in local government, either as an elected official or volunteered on an advisory board? If so, when and in what capacity?

I applied for a vacancy on the economic vitality board with a background in residential construction and small business management but was not selected for this position. On a smaller level, I was elected to the Parent Advisory Council and have served as a board member for the past 4 fours as a trustee, vice president, and president.

What would you hope to achieve if elected to serve as a study commissioner?

I would like to collaboratively review the current city government structure and decide if it is the best form of government to continue using for Bozeman. If it is not, and I feel this is the case, then I would like to propose changes that ensure broader community representation, institute a system of check and balances that limits the ability of a singular office from holding too much power over others and enhance the sense of participation to constituents through community engagement in the review process.
