Response to GVS Questionnaire
Why do you want to run for the study commission?
I am running for a spot on the Gallatin County study commission because I am deeply curious about how our county's government currently functions and whether it is appropriately structured to meet our rapidly growing population.
What skills and experience do you have that you think will help you in your role as a study commissioner?
I would approach the study commission as a blank canvas: ready to ask questions and learn, but without a presumed assumption of how it “should” work. My years working with teams in Southeast Asia taught me that curiosity and genuine listening make up the foundation of business breakthroughs and growth, and I intend to apply that same approach to the study commission. I'm an expert interviewer, communicator, and negotiator -- all of which will be helpful skills on the commission.
Have you ever served in local government, either as an elected official or volunteered on an advisory board? If so, when and in what capacity?
No, this is my first time dipping my toes in local government in any official capacity.
What would you hope to achieve if elected to serve as a study commissioner?
My hope is that when the study commission is complete and findings are delivered to the ballot, the recommendation put forward will ensure that our county's government is equipped to best meet the needs of the next generation in Gallatin County.
