Deanna Campbell
Response to GVS Questionnaire
Why do you want to run for the study commission?
Having lived in Bozeman for over 35 years, I have seen changes I never imagined. Interacting with the city commission and city staff over these years led me to the realization that the people's voice had become insignificant and secondary, at best, to the agenda of the city bureaucracy. This is a chance for change.
What skills and experience do you have that you think will help you in your role as a study commissioner?
I have a mind for study. Having earned a BS in English and Art from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from Pepperdine University I feel ready to take a deep dive into a study of how our city government can best meet the needs and expectations of the people it is meant to serve.
Have you ever served in local government, either as an elected official or volunteered on an advisory board? If so, when and in what capacity?
I have participated in numerous city focus groups. I am a member of the University Neighborhood Association. I have attended many City Commission meetings to voice an opinion. These experiences have given me an insight into how things work, and don't work in Bozeman.
What would you hope to achieve if elected to serve as a study commissioner?
I will study hard and work hard to listen to citizens, city staff and all available resources to determine which of the many options available to us for the structure of our city government would best serve the long- range needs of the local people while allowing for smooth and coordinated workflow and sensible growth.
